... when you have the odd idea or two for possible fanfics or scenarios that would, in the end, either place the main hero and heroines in a disadvantageous career or would be relatively impractical for them.

I am currently playing through Hearts of Iron III as my home country (Australia) and, to my surprise, I can research the possibility of building my own battleships (as we can only build up to Kent-class heavy cruisers right from the get go). While historically this was considered, but later dropped in lieu of a more cost-effective group of ships (as opposed to purchasing a single battleship), the possibility is rather intriguing.

As my first battleship is currently in development (an updated Queen Elizabeth-class capital ship (licenced from the UK), a Renown-class or a Lion-class), I considered either naming it the H.M.A.S. Yamaku or developing a bit of headcanon that our rag-tag group are (heaven forbid!) the ship's first officer compliment.

If the latter, the expected roles might be:

Akira - Ship's captain (liaison from the R.N. to "break the crew in")
Hisao - First Officer/Officer of the Watch
Lilly - Boatswain/Second Officer
Emi - Chief Engineer
Shizune - Fire Control officer
Misha - aide to Fire Control (well, somebody's got to yell "FIRE!!" over the din of the guns!)
Hanako - Signals Officer
Rin - Navigation Officer

I can't image that ship is going anywhere fast

Ha ha, not to mention the possibilities of:

- Akira usually taking her watch with one heck of a hang-over
- Hisao having a heart-attack every time he thinks he sees an enemy submarine's periscope
- Lilly continuing to become frustrated by what she thinks is shoddy repairmanship
- Poor Emi getting herself stuck in some nook or cranny during repair and refits
- Hanako practically living in the wireless office
- Misha continually deafening everyone through the ship's communication pipes

I think we might have a KS version of "The Navy Lark" on our hands. :D

I would watch all of that all the time, also

. . . . When every VN you try to start you get to the title screen and realize you literally can't even.

Little update on the Yamaku Colonial Government. It seems that when Colonial nations fight each other, they don't think of calling in their their mother nation. So when I realised that a Spanish colonial nation had seized Enomoto in a war, my genuine reaction was "How dare you!" I looked around and found the Spanish colonial nation in Alaska was fighting Yamaku and had occupied the OC girls. So I got my armies over there to retake the lands, only to realise that the neighbouring British colonial nation of Newfoundland had taken Suzuki, Miura and Aneki Satou. I had completely missed it 'cause Newfoundland and Yamaku share a similar colour. This time, I went ballistic and yelled at the monitor:

"You fucking dare to take my girls like that!"

In a blind rage, I promptly went to war with them. It didn't work well but I'll try again when I'm thinking more clearly. I think it proves that we are willing to fight to the death for the honour of our girls.

Remind me to channel some of that rage, Rhodri, if and when HMAS Yamaku gets sunk.

(staring through binoculars as the battleship is sunk)

(as a trio of Beaufighters streak overhead) Kill. Them. All.
