I believe the tropes are Cash Cow Franchise and Franchise Zombie.
"Nothing is beneath man. Everything is permitted."

"...since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved. However, it is important above all to avoid being hated."

More on-topic: You ever plan to marry someone but a series of shit decisions (on both ends) erodes the relationship and now she's engaged to somebody else? That's a bad feel...And by "bad", I mean I spent a half-hour choking on lacrimal fluids and became physically ill then slept the day away in a feverish state as the full realization of all my failures came barreling down upon me.

I have a slight, slight feeling you are talking more than hypothetically. Anyway, who needs people, you will always have the internet! Wait. . . .

I never really liked reading. But katawa shoujos story for hanako and lilly was just so sad. NO STORY CAN EVER BE COMPARED TO THIS ONE ! :D

Welcome to the club my man. :)

Where did I suggest it was hypothetical anyway?

This is my feeling exactly. This is the first media item that has made me shed a tear, and one of the very few things in existence to have done so too. I can count the times I have shed a tear on my hands, and Katawa Shoujo takes two of those, with
Emi opening up by her fathers grave. That touched me, as the whole route I was trying to keep close to my heart, and when she let me into hers, I shed a single tear. It was beautiful
and Shizune's bad ending I have been through a time like this, where all my loved ones seemed to fade away, though I recovered, I don't see her making it out. Her family didn't care enough to learn how to communicate with her and her friends broke their bond with her. She is forever alone, with nobody to talk to as she can only communicate through sign.

The others in my life are just mortality related.

Hanako's ending had maximum feels. My favorite girl is Shizune (yeah I know I'm the only Shizune-lover on the planet), but every feel bound to my existence came alive at the end. I actually cried. I don't even cry at funerals.

KILL THE SHIZUNE LOVER WITH FIRE!
(Good thing we weren't talking about Hanako)
Nah, but seriously, I didn't mind her route until the end when Shizune didn't seem to give a fuck about her and Hisao being apart despite the fact they liked each other :/ other than that I liked her route. As for Hanako, I'm just gonna sit in this corner and curl into the foetal position. Don't mind me.
I just love these quotes. Got a problem with that?!

*sits near CFC Kyle in the fetal position as well* do you mind?
Everyone hides who they are at least some of their time. Sometimes you bury that part of yourself so deeply that you have to be reminded it's there at all. And sometimes you just want to forget who you are all together.

Would it be better if she cried and made a big pointless fuss over it?

Yes. Seeing Shizune show that she DOES have more than 3 emotions would have been a better end for me, it would have made me like the character more overall.

Despair.

When you are not happy, what are you? Probably sad or angry or frustrated.
