This game punishes you for actively trying to help any of them. :lol:Largely because where the player intends "help", Hisao opts for "be an asshole".
But it's okay.
Chocolate will make you feel better.

Speaking about chocolate..
Started with picnic ending, traced back a little and entered Rin's path, which felt completely emotionally unappealing to me (honestly, went through it faster than I should have), got her good ending, went to Shizune's path, which was strange and ended badly (that Misha! I was half-certain that would end *very*, *very* bad, as it actually did), and then... found Lilly. Now I feel I won't be able to start another ones for some time at least.

I had the same problem of a route being "emotionally unappealing" with Shizune's route. Now I'm going back through it much slower to see if I can connect better the second time around

And I still haven't played Shizune's arc. :/
I confess I'm not really a Rin fan either. I guess I'm the sort who need a lot of emotional feedback from the person I get interested in, and Rin just doesn't have a lot. I like her, just not as a love interest.
Plus the fact that when you're with her, you pretty much cut yourself off from any other social contact. That just seems wrong.

Rin initially wasn't that interesting to me, I thought I pretty much had her figured out, but was happily surprised during her route to find that I was completely wrong

I started off on Emi's path, then I realized that I had accidentally downloaded only the Act 1 version. After I re-downloaded, I went down Hanako's path.
Still my favorite path.

I just felt a weird disconnect with Shizune on account of her having no voice. They all have no voices, technically, but I had the others voiced in my head.

If it counts for anything, her "MMMMPHS" and various other moans during sex had a voice in my head, and it strangely sounded like Kirsten Dunst as heard in Kiki's Delivery Service.

For Shizune, I'm with the theory that she can speak, just so terribly that she doesn't want to.

Well, she can moan, so I'm sure she can speak.

I thought the devs said explicitly that she's mute? Which doesn't necessarily mean that she cannot moan, she just might not be able to create
most sounds required for speaking, instead of none of them.

She can make sound, so maybe she can even speak if she try. There was a post about a deaf girl who hears for the first time, and she's been speaking by practicing creating vibrations (or something like that).
