Why would Katawa Shoujo be nominated for GOTY over other really fantastic games, anyway? The main selling point would be the story and the "feels", and that's not a lot to go on for the "Game" title.
Why should we hate you?

...when we can despise, loathe, and abhor you?

well, jokes aside I agree though. KS, however, rightfully earns the 'Feels of the Year' for its melodramatic and touching story that sits right in between fiction and reality. Good show!

I guess you're right. After all, you don't play Katawa Shoujo. It plays you, or rather with your emotions.
The fancy term for KS is "interactive fiction". Right up there with Facade, text adventure 'games', and CYOA books. And yes, it absolutely plays you.

It is MY game of the year, for sure. In the end that is all that matters :)

I don't consider it to be a game. Which is good, i'd hate to have to choose between Katawa Shoujo, Spec Ops, and XCOM.

I actually heard Spec Ops was supposed to be utterly kickass. Is that true?

Imho though, The Walking Dead is GOTY for me.

Whether it counts as a game or not, it is my best 'game' ever.

Its a great game, not gameplay wise since its just another cover based shooter, but the history and the total deconstruction of the usual war game narrative is awesome.

First I was thinking that is KS even a game, but after reading ThatOneGamer's post, I agree, KS is a game and my game of the year.

Tough one.

Frankly, I love KS, but I couldn't in all honesty give it game of the year. In the gameplay section it's horribly lacking and it isn't what I'd call "fun," but it would be clean up in the storyline and best characters categories. It's a strong contender for best soundtrack as well.

Don't ask me what game I would give game of the year too. I'd have to think about it a bit more.

KS, Spec Ops the Line and Blops 2 for GOTY
When the war, has been won
And our march home begins
What awaits has not yet been revealed
What was won? what was lost?
Will our deeds be remembered?
Are they written on stone or in sand?

Blops 2 had a shot at GOTY every other year that that same game came out under a different title.

Spec Ops, maybe. It's a pretty good game.

I'd cast my lot in with The Walking Dead but it, like Katawa Shoujo, is less a game and more interactive fiction. Still, it's the only one in the history of gaming that managed to make people give a shit about the kid as opposed to immediately trying to get it killed so...Hell, GOTY worthy in my book.

Same here.

Clementine is in my top 5 favorite characters of all time list.

Oh god, that ending was great. I cried like a little bitch.
