The more I think about it, even as frustrating as it can be, I think I'm starting to agree. Does this make Rin my defacto favorite?

Mostly if you look at Hisao's perspective then yes, I do have to agree with SOME of OPs post.

Admit it, the only character that changed in the end is Hisao.

And yes, sometimes decisions are driven by the amount of 'FEELS' you have in each arc so 'defacto-ing' things is common, so don't have to be ashamed about it.

If we're strictly going by feels, then Emi would be my favorite, which is impossible as I can't fucking stand her. Not all feels are good feels.

Then whatever it is, let our mentality judge it anyway it wants. The human mind is a mysterious thing after all, and what makes us drawn to these characters are probably mysteries as well. Yep, it sounds better too.

Look at the over-arcing story of Gregory House. He's the same misanthropic jerk in the last episode that he was in the first. That doesn't mean he hasn't developed as a character.
