Better then real life ??
Re: Better then real life ??
I don't see it as being better as real life. I don't see how real life can't be this good. Ofcourse, you're probably not going to find blondes with exquisite manners in a public school, but I'm sure you'll be able to find them at high-end colleges or private schools. These girls are not archetypes of theoretical perfection, they all have their flaws, just like real people do.
I recognise many of the traits and personal quirks of the characters in this game in real life people around me and in myself.
I do believe that this story is very representative for what might happen in real life.
You do, in real life, have a shot with almost every girl. Sure, it might be hard right now because of your built up reputation, but if you join a new school, you really do have a shot with every single girl on that school.
You will, indeed, not have a shot if you don't do anything about it and don't socialize with them, but I'm quite sure you have a shot with every single girl.
Then again, I'm 17 year old, so it might not hold true for the older people on these forums.
Also, hi, since this is my first post on here.

Re: Better then real life ??
The game will mean something different to you depending on your personality. For someone who's attractive and outgoing, the prospects of having a relationship with someone similar to the girls in KS might not seem that farfetched. Obviously, we're going to take different things away from the game, and perceive it differently based on our own interpretations of reality.
The game could present a girl with zero flaws whatsoever, and I wouldn't be affected emotionally by them. It's their flaws which make them a plausible human being. They are only just realistic enough to make me wish they existed. By perfection I meant perfect for me, not perfection's technical definition.
The way they are drawn makes them a bit unrealistic as well. It makes them seem much cuter than they would probably look in reality. Hanako is the most obvious example.
And welcome to the boards

With the greatest respect, you believe all that *because* you're 17.Eldrazor wrote: I do believe that this story is very representative for what might happen in real life.

Some girls just won't go out with you, no matter how you socialize with them, or anything else.

I've also noticed this. Two particular girls in my school that act just like Misha and Shizune (besides being deaf). One is the 'control freak' and the other is 'laughing all the time doesn't take things seriously'. My friend pointed it out to me, it was a mind-blown moment haha.Eldrazor wrote:I recognise many of the traits and personal quirks of the characters in this game in real life people around me and in myself.
So, yes, even in my small school of 350~ students (7th-12th), I can relate this characters to others.

Better than real life? Pah. I would be bored if I was Hisao. Where's the adventure, the exploration? Where's the travel to the unknown, the crazy late nights spent with friends, or the time you biked home at light speed around 4am to sneak into bed before your mom woke up? Heck, where's my D&D?
Katawa Shoujo isn't better than real life, because real life is so much more. What it IS though is a very good story about powerful emotions that allows the ready to invest (sometimes heavily) into the story emotionally. It might not be literature, but it evokes a feeling, and it can do that pretty well. I won't lie that I was depressed for a day and a half after I got Lilly's bad end (though, part of this was midterm and moving stress, and a heck of a lot of insomina). But frankly, even if I never meet the incredibly cultured girl of my dreams*, that doesn't mean some fiction where I CAN meet a woman like that is better than the sheer freedom in my life.
Yamaku is interesting. It's solitary, calm and peaceful. Honestly, it would be a really nice place to spend an extended vacation. But it's just not the breath'd of life that can be live. If you do think that KS is better than your life, well, go fix that. Seriously; you only got one, and better late than never to start living it.
*(Though, I'm TOTALLY on the look out for a sweet, well-mannered girl who loves reading, games, and spending a lot of quiet time together. Like, a mash between Lilly and Hanako. Lilko. Hanilly. You know what I'm sayin'.)

I got sucked into this game for the same reasons what metalangel said. It's a reminder of past relationships and all the silliness associated with it.

I suppose, but the fact he won't even consider a light wandering through the fields around Yamaku makes me sad. I mean, hills! Trees! Nature! Stuff! Could be the fact I live on the pariries showing, though. I think pretty nature things because all I get is yellow grass and flat.newnar wrote:Heart Arhythmia. Oh man. The tea, man. The tea. Honestly I'm not much of a tea drinker, but I've only really tried herbal teas, so I've been having the itch to go grab up some earl grey lately.dunkelfalke wrote:Blackknight1239 wrote:*(Though, I'm TOTALLY on the look out for a sweet, well-mannered girl who loves reading, games, and spending a lot of quiet time together. Earl Grey is pretty boring stuff, there are way better teas for a beginner. As a self appointed tea expert I can answer you almost all questions about tea, just ask.Blackknight1239 wrote:Oh man. You said it all, man. Life is made of exploration and opportunities, specially when you are seventeen, those were the days.Blackknight1239 wrote:Better than real life? Pah. We who sees Shizune as someone different are the minority in this sea of Flower Children (Hana-ko), Blind Love, Luber Lovers, and Rinfidels. I salute you!
They say they hate Shizune? What is this? BLASPHEMY!
