Seeing how people are claiming the characters as their "waifus", people getting buttmad over a fanart of Hanako commiting suicide, folks gettin' mad over bad reviews on Katawa Shoujo, I think it is safe to say that it's too late for that.

There will be "embarrassing" extremes like that among fans of any [VN/anime/TV show/sports team/religion/political party/etc.]. A nickname for said community (Trekkies et al) is something that can be used with pride by its members or, at times, pejoratively by anyone else. We just don't need to actively fuel the latter...

Admittedly, not even my wife knows I play Katawa Shoujo, although she does know I'm an Anime fan. She tolerates it though as she's a librarian and I'm an essential Manga/Anime resource for her when it's purchasing time each year for the library.

I also tolerate her classic movie fetish (seriously, who actually watches obscure pre-code movies from the 1920's and 30's? My wife. ) So we're even I guess.

I don't really want a community name, but if we MUST have one, the "Katawans" wins my vote.

I'd throw my vote at Katawans as well.

Cripple Fuckers is a close second. I'm joking.

The major problem I see with "Katawans" is that it's too easy to corrupt to something like "Katards." Anyone who does this will probably earn the undying wrath of /b/tards everywhere for stealing their nickname, but it'll still happen.
