It really is both too generic in type and too specialized in topic to become THE breakthrough game for the English VN market.
I don't really have too much to add other than general agreement with this. I think the idea's not totally without merit, but is definitely one of the lowest priorities right now. At least by my mind.

Yes well we all know what's on your mind, Mr unprompted-yuri-daydream-in-the-middle-of-a-totally-innocent-stroll-and-chat-with-a-blind-girl.
:p
But, in keeping with the "Leave the writeres be" stance that we've taken since before the dawn of time, putting petty limitations on the game like "No nipple slips" does seem a little gregorian.

Delta is right about the small impact of KS, but it shouldn't be a reason to not try to make the game appeal to as many people as possible if the work/payoff ratio is good enough.

What is the work/payoff ratio? Could one of the writers pipe up and tell us how much extra work they'd have to do if we had an all-ages version?

The ratio is unknown since we don't know if the all ages version would appeal to anyone (hence, the motivation to make this thread in the first place). As for the work, since we try our hardest to not just slap porn on top of plot, the H-scenes (hopefully) are integral to the stories, so removing them would (hopefully) require writing something else to replace them, and erasing the traces from the rest of the script. That requires some effort.
Personally, I would have trouble with at least one of the H-scenes... actually, right now I can't even think how I would approach removing it from the script while trying to keep the story as close to intended as possible.

Silly staff members.
Why do you insist on cutting out the ero?
Like your main audience now and forever isn't 4chan, who are mostly interested in the game for the unique concept of having romantic relationships with a series of broken goods.
Wake up and smell the semen.

I guess you missed not only the point of extending our possible audience (nobody ever suggested removing the H from the game), but also half of /a/ furiously playing Clannad since the translation patch was made.

I thought the whole reason this project began was just to make porn of the concept characters? If that's forgotten along the way, isn't it kinda betraying the very spirit of the whole thing?

SO sayeth the old forums.
Thankfully, we binned those, along with the idiocy that went with them.

Even after i explicitely stated that a non-H version would be made only in addition to the "normal" version, why are you still worrying about removing the porn?

It would be feasible to do what I did with Kagetsu Tohya. That is, make a preference that skips the H scenes, but does not pretend they never happened (so no rewrite, just showing a nice equivalent of "scene missing" and picking up after it). Well, of course it would also be possible to rewrite if people want to and branch/merge conditionally, but that largely depends on the scenes in question.
That has the advantage of being a lot less work, and also no multiple distros to deal with (which isn't an issue for the writers, but sure is for me). Downside: The H would still be there, people not wanting it just wouldn't see it. Then again, I think it would be rather silly anyway to pretend we want nothing to do with porn.

Because people are idiots. They only skim the topic, and get furious because "we" are preventing them from getting "their" porn, which they are rightfully entitled to because they are allowing us to create their game for them.

Regular game minus H-scenes seem okay.

See my previous comment on "fading to black." It would not take a whole lot of effort on the writing staff's part. And now I'm tempted to really throw in behind the idea just so people keep getting the wrong idea and B'AWWWW-ing.

Yeah ok, just brutally removing the H-scenes and not even attempting to cover for it works for sure. It's a bit inelegant maybe but gets the job done in case we want the non-H version but can't be arsed to do a lot of work for it.
