I wish I had a mother like that.
Do whatever you feel the most comfortable with, but I think you definitely should do it!
No need to be embarrassed, we all start somewhere, right?
Everyone (any age or gender) should join a gym; it's for people who want to be healthy and not just for bodybuilding twenty-something males.

first time I went to a gym I was just like you, don't feel embarrassed, everyone is like that when they start, some decide to use a little help ("magical pills"), some don't. If you can get a friend to hit it with you it'll be even better

Magical Pills? What use is it for in the gym anyway?
Wait, are you thinking about something else or
viagra?
...
...
...k, I'll shut up now.

Weekly Update:
Down 2 lbs., bringing my total to 45 lbs. I thought this week was not gonna go well - I wasn't tracking calories very well, I missed one of my two swim days due to schedule conflicts, and I didn't walk yesterday due to waking up too late. Guess it turned out okay in the end anyway. =]
No excuse to be lazy, though - the stressful two week work slam is over, so I should return to normalcy a little now.

Thanks, guys. I'll talk to my aunt (who works there) on Sunday when I see her and see about giving it a go. Doing well with the 200 sit-up challenge as well

Like Akros said It'd be more fun with a friend along with you. It'll keep your mind off of things for a while and get a little less tired so you can carry more reps. (probably coz I wanna show him I'm improving little by little.) Serves as a little inspiration for me.
Oh and don't use them supplements, or medicine things unless your really gonna go and can spend a lot of time lifting...Trust me mate, I had a friend who used some and since we were kinda busy with our college projects (that's a whole lotta drawing for us.), he didn't have much time to hit the gym so those medicine thingy turned into a fat belly. Took him quite a while to lose that too. ( I don't think he ever did wahahaha.)

... I couldn't make myself talk to my aunt in the end. I'll try grabbing a friend and tag along when they go to the gym, though as I live about 10 miles away from most friends, it'll mean a bit more travelling
.
And supplements? I hadn't even considered it, and will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future. Thank you all for the brilliant feedback, which is helping me a lot closer to getting my arse in gear
Now just to actually do it.

Fix'd.
Supplements (at least in the sense that I understand the term) are meant more for those who are trying to build muscle *mass* as opposed to strength (i.e. those who are working out to get that 'hunky male physique'). There's not as much of a connection between muscle size and physical strength as most people think - some of the strongest guys out there can not even look it unless you take their shirt off or the like (just ask Spider-Man!). If you're trying to build bulk, then I guess they'd work (if you use them as advertised), but if you're trying to build muscle power, there's only one kind of 'supplements' that will really do anything, and they're not something we should even jokingly recommend in here. Bad idea, just stay away.

Since I know you all love me and have been dying to know how I am I shall fulfill your wishes.
For the last 2 weeks I have been on vacation in Florida, which was a 1000 mile drive from New Mexico. 4 Days of doing nothing in an RV, we also never had Wi-Fi so it has been dull as rocks. I was feeling bad about not exercising in this time, but then we got to Disney (Side note: Disney was legit, loved it and had a huge blast. Especially in Epcot. The world showcase is so interesting). For the 4 days we were at Disney it was 8-12 hours a day on our feet standing in lines and walking. I think i walked around 15 to 20 miles a day. So I think that balances the scales for the time i spent not running
. The very interesting part though was this: Because I come from New Mexico which is at a much higher elevation than Florida (1 mile up) the air I am used used to breathing is much thinner. So my body is used to very thin oxygen and running on it, so we got a bit of change in Florida which has comparatively thicker oxygen. What this means is that throughout the entire trip no matter how much we walked I was never winded and my heart was never strained. My legs nearly gave out on me, but that is irrelevant.
Once i get back home (Still in Florida) then I will start running again and think i will repeat the week I was on (week 4)
Welp that's everything I needed to say. Enjoy your week and I should be able to check back in either Thursday or Friday.
Till then be safe and enjoy yourselves,
Sk3tch

I'm still stuck on w5d1. Good luck though!

Good job to everyone! I'm repeating week 3 since I was on vacation last week and didn't get to run.
Today was easy though, so I might begrudgingly begin week 4 later this week. The one thing running has instilled in me (even though it's only been a short time) is perseverance. Just push through all the BS and you will make it and feel better for it. It's awesome.

Final runup to my century pushup this week
My target was to be able to do 100 pushups by this weekend, which was going to be a weekend away. Sadly, that's now been cancelled, but the target remains!
It has however been... stretched... slightly. Rather than do 100 PUs before the weekend, my aim is now to do W6D1 yesterday (which I did
), D2 on Tuesday, D3 on Thursday and the 100 pushup test on Saturday.
Sadly, this does mean that if I fail it, I won't have any time to train or rest and have another attempt before the end of the weekend... so I'd best not fail it
My W6D1 yesterday was 45/55/35/30/55, and I did them all, so good start!
I can't believe I'm on the final runup to doing 100 pushups at once. This seems really surreal

Come on Althamus, good luck! I had a doctor's visit today, and I've been told (among other things) that I jumped into the situps way too fast and to slow down my training as it's killing my back. Hope I can survive the break in routine...
