Money is nothing, because unlike most people in society, Hanako can be a true friend. So what better than to make a true friend happy ?

Best of both worlds!

I always wondered how Lilly was able to know which notes are which in her wallet. I mean, unless she carries ONLY 5000 yen notes... how would she know which are which?

She has a shopping partner with sight.

Well, all Hisao's narration says is "I see her take out four 5000 yen notes." Pretty sure, if I remember right. He says nothing about showing her which are which.

Perhaps she has her wallet organized and memorized.

I'm sure blind people have a system for sorting their money. I'd guess that it involves folding the corners a certain way. Its something I'll have to look into.

I already did so. Various countries have money of differing width and length, some (Canada) put braille on the corners. For currencies lacking these distinctions (dollars and presumably yen), folds are indeed the method. There are also wallet dividers and electronic scan devices.

He sounds like he gets okay amounts of money though, with buying books and what not. Being able to spend the equivalent of about 55 dollars for Hanako's gift is cool.

Thats great to hear. I doubt we'd get that here in the US. The right-wingers would be raising hell that its "A waste of money".
