This ought to resolve all your questions on the subject.
Myself, I have just found a new level of frustration at the silliness English can get away with.

Shattering your dreams since '94. I also fought COVID in '20 and '21, and all I got was this lousy forum sig.
Re: Pronunciation of names?
Hee-deh-ah-kee would be a close fit. The 'ee' sounds drag on longer in English than in Japanese, so imagine it as a shortened sound. Hi-de-a-ki would work if not for the ambiguities on how the vowels sound. Also, remember how the syllables work. They don't normally end in consonants, so 'ack' wouldn't work.G0t0 wrote:hideaki

It's a good thing Shizune is deaf, she is the only one who can stand (not) hearing "Wahaha~!" over and over.

I laughed when I tried to get the Chinese one to say "tsundere."Silentcook wrote:This ought to resolve all your questions on the subject.
How do you pronounce Hisao?
I've only just 100%ted Katawa Shoujo (Still haven't unlocked that final image! :/ ) and one thing kept coming back to me.
I've never really known how to pronounce the main characters name!
Hi-sao, His-ao, H-is-ao ?

Re: Pronunciation of names?
Why don't you just use IPA for pronounciation instead of the very ambiguous "english" syllables?

Re: Pronunciation of names?
It's easier to pronounce them assuming people know how to read Hiragana and Katakana--then convert those names into such.dunkelfalke wrote:Why don't you just use IPA for pronounciation instead of the very ambiguous "english" syllables?
Pretty much that's how I pronounce them
