Redditor explains music to a deaf person

Post by Member22 »

I stumbled over an interesting explanation of music to a deaf person:

Original:

"If Hisao took one thing away from his time at Yamaku it was the fact that people who have handicaps don't actually have handicaps. People like Lilly and Shizune are more able-bodied and well-adjusted than most of the kids at Hisao's old high school. He shook his head slightly. No, students at Yamaku weren't handicapped; everyone else was." - WetCrate

Ironic that it was made by a person named "Badlogic".

that response was actually well written. Makes me wonder if that person had dealings with a deaf person before.
My original play-through schedule: Hanako, Lilly, Emi, Shizune, Rin.
After playing through the game a second time, the revised list goes like this: Lilly, Hanako, Shizune, Emi, Rin.

I really, really liked this description. Read it last night, and I spent a large chunk of my time at work thinking about it today. Also made me wish I could see a newly hearing person experience music for the first time. :)

Definite +1 to that guy, that's a really brilliant way to describe it.

To quote Hanna: "Music. A combination of sounds, with a view to beauty of form, and expression of emotions.:

hmm, thats a very good interpretation of music. I guess one could compare different tones to different families of colors. Just like in paintings where a particular color would invoke a feeling of loneliness or bright happiness, particular tones would make us feel sad, or pumped up.

I'm trying to remember a certain Pratchett's quote, which can be applied here. It goes in the lines of: "It is a good description. Wrong in every sense, but still very useful."

It is as accurate as the equivalency between two senses can be.
