Re: Is katawa Shoujo the gateway drug of visual novels?
For me, it depends on whether you count Gyakuten Saiban as a VN series. I'm looking to get into more VN's because I just finished the KS demo for the first time (v.2) despite having it for a while, I just dipped in every now and then. The problem is I'm on a Mac really, and I don't really know how to find good Mac VN's with English translations.

Which leaves us with what, Narcissu?EternalLurker wrote:http://www.insani.org/
Good luck Chiaro, that and KS are the only VNs with a decent reputation that I've found for Mac. 95% of the time it's Windows only.

Well I'm dual-booting Windows 7, but it's been borked for a short while now, may have to get round to fixing it. >_<
If I do, what's say... the best 5 VN's to get? I've really enjoyed my first play of the KS demo.
Oh, and is Narcissu worth downloading?

Go try Narcissu 2 as well. It's a prequel to the first game.
Try True Remembrance too.

More seriously, they also have LEAVEs, Red Shift, Moonshine, and May Sky, which were each good in very different ways (largely LEAVEs+Red Shift: story; Moonshine + May Sky: sound). Plus several others which...weren't. But your mileage may vary.
Anyway, other VNs usually run fine through Crossover and the like.

I agree with all the VNs mentioned on this page as recommendations.
Especially.... True Remembrance

Also, despite the obvious increase in production quality (better artwork, good voice actors (some better than others), more new songs, etc) as compared to part 1, I didn't like Narcissu 2. Though perhaps that's partially because of the religion overload, not to mention the fact that, well, there isn't much new about the story after Narcissu 1.

I still can't get Narcissu to download properly. Maybe it was never ment to be.EternalLurker wrote:Also, despite the obvious increase in production quality (better artwork, good voice actors (some better than others), more new songs, etc) as compared to part 1, I didn't like Narcissu 2. Rin=Hanako>Emi>Misha>Lilly>Shizune (Misha counts in my world alright; and now she surpassed Lilly)

From here?
Amusingly, it was released on April 1st and Haeleth's site never updated to mention it, which seemed mighty suspicious. But that link's valid.

I'm enjoying how rich the story seems to be, but I don't know, the lack of art is kind of a put off for me? I like the character design of KS, and it's quite lacking in Narcissu. I understand it's supposed to be all about the imagination, but, well... I just find it kinda empty.

Yeah, the visual aesthetic definitely takes a while to get used to. The soundtrack totally makes up for it though, at least for me.Chiaroscuro wrote:I'm enjoying how rich the story seems to be, but I don't know, the lack of art is kind of a put off for me?
