Favourite artworks - reprise.
Re: Favourite artworks - reprise.
It's entirely possible she has specifically been taught (or even specifically asked to be taught) to point her eyes in the general vicinity of things for body-language purposes.

Re: Favourite artworks - reprise.
For that matter, I always wondered how she was so expressive, besides artistic license.
Deaf people don't talk because they never get the auditory feedback to make corrections to their speech. Similarly, people that are blind since birth don't have visual feedback to learn body language, gestures, facial expressions, etc.
When Hisao comments that Lily is looking at him with pity, it always made me wonder: How does Lily know what a pitiful gaze looks like?
I dunno, are there therapy programs like that to help the blind?
EDIT: Huh, turns out there's a lot of evidence to support that a lot of facial expressions are innate. I learned something today

Artistic License is a fair point.
I don't think I would be able to take any fanart seriously is she was bog-eyed the whole time

I wonder what the story is behind this picture. On the one hand, the joke is obviously supposed to be "Rin in a bin". But the top hat makes her look like Professor Layton, who, like Rin, is all about being a proper "gentleman". Either way, it's hilarious!Charmant wrote:rininabin.jpg

Re: Favourite artworks - reprise.
Yes, I know. But thank you for attempting to enlighten me anyway! It just so happens that the laws of proper Japanese pronunciation don't stop millions of non-Japanese from saying "Ryu" as "Ree-you" or "Rye-you" either. And, if I'm not mistaken, most words that end with "in" would be pronounced with an "een" sound in the Japanese accent. So if we're going to strictly pronounce things as a Japanese-speaking person would, the English word "bin" would rhymeCoffeeDrive wrote:So is it now or later i tell everyone its pronounced "Reen"
with "Reen". Try it for yourself.

Surely you pronounce the character's names in your own native accent? Do you say Lilly as 'Ree-Ree'?

No, beause Lilly is an english name, Rin isnt, I tend to pronounce names in their native language, not my own.Munchenhausen wrote:Here we go againCoffeeDrive wrote:So is it now or later i tell everyone its pronounced "Reen"

It's for that very reason that I find Akira intriguing. Her name is native Celtic/Scots as well as Japanese.CoffeeDrive wrote:No, beause Lilly is an english name, Rin isnt, I tend to pronounce names in their native language, not my own.Munchenhausen wrote:Here we go againCoffeeDrive wrote:So is it now or later i tell everyone its pronounced "Reen"

Perhaps Lilly was named with that idea in mind as well.
