Yamaku Book Club (20220124 Dish Washing)
Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Whiskey, Saki, ...)
Even outside of the context of any continuity, I thought this particular story held up pretty nicely. Hisao's role as a teacher was played up nicely, and the tangential connection to Saki was just enough to make things work. Sometimes it's the little things that we do that count.
I stand by the sentiment of it feeling like a TV show pilot though.

I never even realized F&C's stories were supposed to be in the same continuity ^^°

It’s more apparent if you read the stories in his pastebin. I refer to them as ‘FluffandCrunch’s Lilly Good-End Stories’, though I can’t recall if that’s the official title or if I made it up.Mirage_GSM wrote:I never even realized F&C's stories were supposed to be in the same continuity ^^°
I found out about Katawa Shoujo through the forums of Misfile. There, I am the editor of Misfiled Dreams.

I think of this one as a Saki-continuity story (sort of) which just happens to have other people in it. To me, it's beautiful and charming, and even more so if I don't have to think about F&C's menage-a-trois whatever.griffon8 wrote:It’s more apparent if you read the stories in his pastebin. Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Turn to stone)
Turn To Stone (with the rest of the unfortunately brief fanfic that it leads to) contains a very believable, aggressive, rough-edged Miki Miura. That it's linked to one of the meanest, most discouraging endings that KS can provide is a big bonus. I like the Miki. I'm not sure there's enough actual character development because I like the Emi and the Hanako here too, but I don't get enough of them. I would love to finish the fanfic if the original author doesn't, but I don't think I have the talent for that.
I'm glad that the anniversary stories will be out soon!

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Turn to stone)
I will note that this series definitely contributes to my headcanon that Miki is really, really rough around the edges.
Including Touchdown Breakdown... it's quite powerful, although I agree that things didn't go far enough to give everyone else the character development they needed. I could see an expansion that includes character development for Lilly, when she comes back and sees that everything's fucked up and the core of her social circle has completely changed.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Turn to stone)
To be honest I wasn't that impressed with the prologue, but the three chapters that followed more than made up for it.
I'd also have liked to see more of the story, but I think the story achieved what it set out to do, and the place it ends is very appropriate.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Turn to stone)
This is one of those cases where I wish I did not have a head canon.
Miki just struck me as being far too cynical and rough around the edges, beating out even Hisao in that regard. A consequence of course, of a hinted at backstory that was a little too gritty for my liking. It did not strike out at me that way back then, when I first read the fic, but reading it along with its subsequent chapters made that seem apparent.
And in the end, I can't help but feel that Hanako just unknowingly traded out Hisao for Miki...

This was my very first thought on reading this: "So that's where bhtooefr got his Miki-Hanako headcanon..."bhtooefr wrote:I will note that this series definitely contributes to my headcanon that Miki is really, really rough around the edges.

Anyway, overall a pretty good one-shot (or not, apparently). Some minor issues, and one major one (having Miki with the wrong hand missing), but it definitely gives us a believable Miki, unlike a lot of stories that feature her.
Rin is orthogonal to everything.

Oh. Hrm. Yeah. Hello, Miki Sue. *headdesk* Gah. I used to like Miki, once upon a time, but the fandom has ruined her for me. That there is a prime example of why. Too bad, too, because those chapters were otherwise fairly well done.Mirage_GSM wrote:The continuation.dewelar wrote:The who to the what now?Mirage_GSM wrote:To be honest I wasn't that impressed with the prologue, but the three chapters that followed more than made up for it.
