I assumed it was meant to be a flashback or memory. Hence the fading around the hair.

What worries me more is, if the hair outline represents the hair, then what are the background lines? An audience?
Lilly = Rin > Hanako > Emi > Misha > Shizune

I'm back in action.

This is kind of silly to point out, but I've seen this picture several times, and never noticed Emi's butt. This sorta makes the picture better in my eyes, and I can look past the spirit hair.

Did VCR ever finish that one?

Iirc, I saw an unfinished Hanako/Emi picture, which had the ghost hair. Then I saw the same picture, but the hair coloured in but missing shading
