Daddy? Why Doesn't Mommy Have Arms?
Re: Daddy? Why Doesn't Mommy Have Arms?
I think Hanako would actually hate Lilly for that. She might adopt the child, if they're still alive, though.

Probably as badly as anyone would take a severely injured child. But no worse than average.Zarys wrote:someguy1294 wrote:Except Lily, who would become an alcoholic at the stress of raising children and eventually snap and burn the house down.Zarys wrote:I think there might be difficulties, but they would be all good mothers.
Sorry.
Actually I'm not.
I wonder how Hanako would takes the fact that Lilly burned by negligence (if not fatally, scarified like Hanako) her own child.
I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

She'd probably react in a similar way to Raiden's reaction to losing his arm in Metal Gear Rising. She'd take one look at the kid and go "Shit, not again."

About it, pregnancy could be a problem with Hanako ? she does not have many scars on her stomach, but she could gain weight on her hips, for example (she has a scar on a good part of her right buttock)
I don't know whether the distortions of the skin caused by a pregnancy could be bad for her scars ?

That's actually a good point. During the sex scene, it mentions that the scars hurt her when she's... jiggling if I remeber correctly, so stretching the stomach may be painful for her. Although, I'd imagine it kinda depends on how deep the scar is. If it's mostly just skin, it may just be slightly painful at first. If it's significantly deeper, it could cause bleeding and splitting of the skin, kinda like a REALLY bad sunburn when your skin just peels off like old paper. I can kinda imagine waking up next to Hanako and she's just molted all over the bed.Zarys wrote:About it, pregnancy could be a problem with Hanako ? she does not have many scars on her stomach, but she could gain weight on her hips, for example (she has a scar on a good part of her right buttock)

It would make Hisao's child with Shizune look damn smart though, that's for sure.
Just imagine in a parent-teacher conference, Hisao's son/daughter translates everything the teacher said so his/her mother could understand--that would impress any teacher, I know it would impress me. Sure, she won't be able to hear or fully enjoy a school performance, but she'll judge her child's effort and participation.
What I really want to know is how many awkward moments she'll have when meeting other parents without Hisao or her child.

I doubt teachers are actually going to find that very impressive (unless its their first time seeing sign language or something)Megumeru wrote:It would make Hisao's child with Shizune look damn smart though, that's for sure.

Most kids already know how to speak 2 languages fluently.
I doubt it would be that awkward. The other parents will probably be mature and intelligant enough to get out a notepad or phone and write/text to her. I don't think most parents would mind. They might find the new experience very enlightening and might understant deaf people better. I'm sure that would make Shizune happy.

This pretty much, my cousin communicates with other parents through a notepad she carries around in a shizune fashion for use when either me, her daughter or her husband arn't around to translate. A couple people ive asked who've "Spoken" to her in this way say that it is actually a very interesting experience and it gives them more time to think about what to say, which is strange when compared to how quick spoken communication is.Forever_ambivalent wrote: I doubt it would be that awkward. But how often do you find someone who can do sign language out-of-the-bat?Forever_ambivalent wrote: I doubt teachers are actually going to find that very impressive (unless its their first time seeing sign language or something)

Two spoken language, that's normal. Two spoken language and sign language? You don't see that everyday in your teaching career.

If you Google "CODA" you'll find lots of tales of growing up with Deaf parents and having to be an impromptu interpreter.Megumeru wrote:

Actually I'm getting interested in learning sign language. It has always fascinated me for some reason.
Reading: Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami; Fractured - Karin Slaughter
Playing: Sniper Ghost Warrior 2; Far Cry 3; Dragon's Crown
Cat: "Where are you going?" Alice: "Which way should I go?"
Cat: "That depends on where you are going." Alice: "I don’t know."
Cat: "Then it doesn’t matter which way you go."

Re: Daddy? Why Doesn't Mommy Have Arms?
I learned how to sign the days of the week because my kind-of-ex-but-also-kind-of-not-sometimes (it's ridiculously fucking complicated) works at a daycare and one of the many horrendously-dumb-yet-catchy songs she sings to the little ones (most of which are ingrained into my brain to the point I sometimes sing them in the shower without noticing) is about the days of the week and accompanied by signs.
I continue to maintain that I'd really rather just write stuff down given the option.

At least you have a ex. (Good thing, except if your first love is your true love like Hisao)Potato wrote:I learned how to sign the days of the week because my kind-of-ex-but-also-kind-of-not-sometimes (it's ridiculously fucking complicated) works at a daycare and one of the many horrendously-dumb-yet-catchy songs she sings to the little ones (most of which are ingrained into my brain to the point I sometimes sing them in the shower without noticing) is about the days of the week and accompanied by signs.
