At the risk of seven years bad luck for commenting on unfinished work...this is pretty obviously unfinished work.

Of course it is. They didn't finish the game for years. There wasn't even a "Hisao" yet. That's actually why I nomiated this one, just to bring it to people's attention how different some of the earlier ideas where.

It's fun in a "what could have been" sense. Still, I'm glad what we got wasn't that. Rin became far less cliche and Emi became a much stronger character.

If I'd thought about it, I probably would have also posted the ending where Hanako goes full on crackling supervillain and kills everyone to go along with these two.

Eh, so do all works in life. This is just the kind of stuff that gets thrown into the crucible.

These kind of reinforce my impression that KS was in itself almost a parody of things like School Days and the likes. That, or the writers were genuinely deluded into thinking these were good ideas at the time. Given the VN's rather chaotic development, that is very possible, I suppose. The characters are just so out of touch with what we know today, it's scary to imagine how the rest of the VN might have tried to justify this blatantly psychopathic behavior. Or rather, how badly proto-Hisao must have fucked up to instigate these hypothetical events.

That, or the writers were genuinely deluded into thinking these were good ideas at the time.

This is what I think. Thankfully, they had years and years of pitching ideas back and forth, touching things upo, and having the other devs step up and tell them when they thought certain ideas sucked.

Oh, and that hanako ending does have a picture to go along with it.

True enough. I'm sure if anyone saw the early versions of Developments chapters before they went through rewriting and editing, they'd think those sucked, too. I think this is why I tend to avoid early versions of anything media-related in general, whether it be something like this, a TV pilot, or those ever-present demo versions of tracks when an album gets remastered. I mean, I get why people are interested in the creative process, but for whatever reason, I never have been. I mean, there's a reason this stuff didn't make it into the finished work, right? I've experienced enough of this sort of thing to know that it's likely going to be crap, so I'm better off spending my time looking for/listening to something else. Maybe I should go look for the beta/demo versions of stuff I hate to see if it started off good .

I don't know, I find the experience of reading these kinds of things kind of... fascinating.

My parents and I visited a meteor crater when I was a kid. The thing was over a mile in diameter. I don't have any memory of the event itself, but looking back at the pictures they took while we were there, all I can think is "Wow, that's a really big damn hole in the ground."

In some loose, metaphorical sense, that kinda describes the kick I get out of reading these. They're history. And, I suppose they are also really big damn holes in the ground.

Odd. I could swear we did this one already, as I just read it recently. But looking back, we clearly did not.

And now here I am, trying to fathom what inspired me to read it in the first place. Not to speak on its quality or anything - that's for the meeting. Just that I don't usually click on random fics when picking out reading material.

If 'something different' means outlandish, then the focus tends to be on the nature of the outlandish. But perhaps this one? Not sure if it's been done yet. Getting old.
