Emi ending (spoilers for days)
Re: Emi ending (spoilers for days)
Congrats Spunky, you lured out a dev.
I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

And Emi's 'godfather' to boot.Potato wrote:Congrats Spunky, you lured out a dev.
Post-Yamaku, what happens? After The Dream is a mosaic that follows everyone to the (sometimes) bitter end.

And I'm kind of honored.Potato wrote:Congrats Spunky, you lured out a dev.
If you're still around and you have the time... anything in particular that interested you, Hivemind? I'm sure being the author of something so complicated to write comes with its own expectations and hopes for audience reactions, and I'm sure they don't always match up perfectly.

Re: Emi ending (spoilers for days)
Mostly it's just interesting to see how much thought other people put into the characters. Sometimes it lines up with what I thought, sometimes it doesn't--Emi asking Hisao to stay, for example, was conceived of as a big deal. There was a draft of the path where it was made more explicit that Hisao went back to his room after each sexual encounter (there were more of those, or at least more talk of those, as well), but it was one of the things that was cut/reworked and made less obvious. Also that Emi is more dealing with a mental trauma rather than a physical one--although privately, I always assumed she'd sort herself out on her own, given enough time (another thing made explicit in a deleted scene after her bad end). My word, if you managed to pull this much out of a character like Emi, I wonder what you'd do with a better written one.SpunkySix wrote: If you're still around and you have the time... anything in particular that interested you, Hivemind? Not liking Emi is hardly something that will get anyone on my bad side. Sometimes characters don't connect with the reader, and that's just the way things are.Pandas wrote:Oh gosh,

Alright, well thanks. Not just for taking an interest in my post and the time to respond, but for writing up the path and character as well. Sometimes I think you guys on the 4LS staff don't give yourselves enough credit.TheHivemind wrote:Mostly it's just interesting to see how much thought other people put into the characters. Not too get TOO off topic, but does anyone know who wrote Hanako's character.
Or Rin?
They're my two favorite so i'd really be interested in knowing who they are atleast.

Cpl_crud and Suriko wrote Hanako, Aura wrote Rin.Pandas wrote:Not too get TOO off topic, but does anyone know who wrote Hanako's character.

Re: Emi ending (spoilers for days)
I think the important part of the shed scene is the aftermath. It starts as a relatively contrived "porn" scene. Had it gone well, it would have been utterly forgettable. It didn't go well at all, but interestingly the two handled that pretty well. I think that tells us something about their relationship at that point. For that to work you need a certain level of genuine trust, whether they are aware of it or not.Pandas wrote:I'm aware what nonsensical means.
Meaning it makes no sense or it's ridiculous in nature.
I'm pointing VERY harshly at the toolshed scene.
I realize it's kind of a more "crazy fantasy" type of thing. But neither of them enjoyed it really due to it being awkward and painful for Emi. It was very ridiculous in nature that they'd put in such a weird scene. If anything i got a good laugh out of it but it seemed quite useless to put in.
Re: Emi ending (spoilers for days)
There's that, and also the fact that, yes, the scene was extremely forced and sudden. This was likely intentional and serves to make Hisao's assertion that him and Emi have fallen into a cycle of sex-as-distraction from emotional issues more believable, so that it doesn't seemingly come out of nowhere to the reader. We are shown a clear example of Emi setting up a situation specifically for sex in a contrived, even manipulative manner firsthand. Without that, it would just be Hisao going, "oh yeah, also we bang a lot, maybe even too much" after a single relatively tame scene, which would also feel forced, but in a much less productive way. Notice how quickly after Emi's first H scene the shed scene occurs. It's practically the scene after.Ritter Delorges wrote:I think the important part of the shed scene is the aftermath. It’s an aspect that I thought made the story feel more real and believable.SpunkySix wrote: re

The first time with a new partner is always very exciting. Usually afterwards your mind is racing with kinky thoughts and you’re very keen to have another go, as soon as possible.

Re: Emi ending (spoilers for days)
This made me picture Emi as a stereotypical "gay divorceé", going into sex withdrawals and on the prowl.
"C'meah, honey. You're a cutie, ya know that? Whaddaya doin' laydah awan? Meet me at the track shed? Maybe fworish? Hmm? [flicks cigarette]"
