Side characters
I know that this is a amazing game but it has a few flaws that for me are personal preference. But there's one that's really bugging me on every route I take and I want to know if anyone else thinks it too.
Why isn't there more side characters in the game?
I know it sounds dumb but think about it, whichever route hisao takes he never talks to any of his classmates apart from the 5 main girls (misha included since she comes with shizune I guess) and miki. I mean, wouldn't he have at least socialised slightly with other people in his class at least?
maybe he does speak to them but off screen, but when in hanakos route he talks to miki for the first time he doesn't really know for certain who she is, which makes me think that he doesn't talk to any of his classmates but misha and shizune. Ist that weird?

Re: Side characters
Apparently more characters were written, but the problem became making sprites for them all so they were trimmed out wherever possible.
Hisao does mention interacting with his classmates and other students a time or two though. He just never gets really close to them.

Ah, fair enough. But it just annoys me when he says he has nothing to do with the girl your after ( out of context that sounds very rapeish) you just sit in the library or take a nap. Because apparently there's no one else to talk to in a school full of kids.

Re: Side characters
The game itself handwaves this by saying that "only the girls here are sociable" when Hisao first arrives at his dorm. He only has one hallmate in said dorm (Kenji), and he understandably prefers to avoid him. Also, he's pretty depressed when he gets to Yamaku, and therefore doesn't go around initiating a lot of conversations outside of Hanako (and even there it required Lilly's intervention to keep things moving along). Combine all that with the fact that all the routes except Shizune's last two months or less, and I think the fact that he doesn't talk to anyone else is pretty realistic.RandomPerson wrote:Ah, fair enough. Rin is orthogonal to everything.

Actually on Lilly's route, Lilly mentions that Hisao has gotten more sociable and gets along fairly well with most of his classmates. It's just that you don't really see much of that interaction since it takes place during class sessions, which would be boring to read about.

I like to think he hangs around with Takashi and Taro offscreen

I like to think taro is like this master cook that feeds everyone in the boys dorm for a small fee.... Then refuse to cook for the assholes

Funny. Takashi is actually one of the few classmates Hisao mentions not getting along well with.

Yeah, something along the lines of 'the guy in the beret who's always scowling.'

That could honestly drive someone insane, to get it that bad he must have been involved in an explosion or something. Or just got really unlucky with an ear infection that wasn't treated.Munchenhausen wrote:Tinnitus can do that to a bloke.AaronIsCrunchy wrote:Yeah, something along the lines of 'the guy in the beret who's always scowling.'

Even unluckier, it could just be congenital :/AaronIsCrunchy wrote:That could honestly drive someone insane, to get it that bad he must have been involved in an explosion or something. Mine's congenital, but thankfully I don't really notice it often

Because when your friend's not around to talk to, you just strike up a conversation with any random person in the hall...Except nobody does that.RandomPerson wrote:Ah, fair enough. I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

No, you'd talk to one of your classmates or someone else you know because normal people usually have more than one friend and at least a few acquaintances. I don't just think, you know what fuck it let's go take a nap until my freinds back.Potato wrote:Because when your friend's not around to talk to, you just strike up a conversation with any random person in the hall...Except nobody does that.RandomPerson wrote:Ah, fair enough. Re: Side characters
"Normal people" usually haven't just been totally uprooted by a potentially-fatal medical condition and sent spiraling into depression, spared only by the love of a sweet cripple girl. Plus the first thing many of them would probably ask is some variation of "So, what's fucked up with you?" and Hisao hates talking about it.RandomPerson wrote:No, you'd talk to one of your classmates or someone else you know because normal people usually have more than one friend and at least a few acquaintances.
