It's porn with plot.

KS is plot with porn (like most VNs)
I couldn't disagree more. GoT the television series is pretty heavy on the tits and wine, but a whole lot of that is fan service. If you've both read the books and watched the show, you know a whole lot of what's in them ended up compressed or outright left on the cutting room floor -- but very little of that omitted material is sex. Then they went and added more. The books are much more balanced, probably in large part because there's only so much sex can do to advance the plot (and in the case of ASOIAF, it actually has major plot significance). In spite of the blatant fan service, it's actually really, really good television. It's just that the books are even better.

Take my opinion as you wish. I admit to thoroughly lifting the format for my own book (icons for each character, a new POV every chapter, multiple in-flight plotlines at any given moment, and jumping into a scene already in progress more often than not are some obvious ones, but I also appropriated the habit of showing something baffling and waiting two hundred pages to explain it) so obviously I'm partial to the way they're written. This includes long stretches without sex, in a book that's supposed to be somewhat romance-oriented, because I don't like dropping H-scenes that don't make sense.

Funny, the exact opposite is true for me. I'm the one that got her into it, and several of my friends have done similar things.

I'll just ignore the GoT argument at hand, have a few quick thoughts to myself of certain scenes in it, and get on with the thread matter.

Yes, and she quite enjoys playing it as well. Her favorite route is Rin's good ending.

Just wanted to give this some closure by acknowledging what a weird place I must have been in when I made this topic. Of course people can read a romance story while dating. I mean... seriously me? Romance movies, paperback novels, ringing any bells?

Past you needs a backhanding. :P
I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

You weren't in a weird place, you just lack experience in this topic. Be embarrassed if like, but more important is to get out there and get some experience.

She's not exactly a girlfriend, per se, but is a very close female friend of mine.

I introduced her to the game and the characters last night. She says Hanako is her alter ego in terms of personality: socially reclusive after some pretty bad turns in life. Physically, she's a total Emi: petite but great-looking.

I've always had a habit of 'becoming' characters a little too strongly, so this actually did affect my current relationship. Not so much that I have real feelings for fake characters, but more because of how the girls affected me. Once I kinda woke up from being His so, I realized that my 2 favorites, Lilly and Emily, were the types of girls who made me want to be a better person. I then realized that my gf doesn't have that affect on me at all. Generally I am lazy and a bit self-absorbed. Especially Lilly made me want to be better. To do something with my life, to share more in my partners problems and be there for them. Aaand my gr8 doesn't do that to me. :(

Anyone else have any revelations concerning their relationships due to KS?

I think the thing you have to remember is that these characters were written with their problems, but conversely while dealing with them Hisao began to improve himself, to look upon the world more optimistically or to push himself. After I played it I felt kinda similar initially, but then I figured that if I still seek to improve myself, in some way that will permeate to concern my girlfriend, and I'll be improved to everyone else too :)

The main issue I had was to address the issue of distance between me and my girlfriend, but in a weird way it helped me deal with it better. I feel far less anxious about being cheated on now, for example.

I play this game as well as maintaining a 1 year and 5 month relationship. It's no big struggle simply because the difference between what i'll call "fantasy" and "real life" is too great.
Although unluckily for me, as i read this for the first time around and i was really "getting the feels"
I got into a small relationship conflict and my feels were intense yet at the same time being drawn away from the story. It's pretty simple though. It's just as if you were to read a love story while in a relationship :)
