I haven't read it in a while, I am right in thinking that Emi just suddenly turns around and admits she doesn't actually love you?Atario wrote:I… er, which twist? (I may be too familiar with the stories by now to see it…)
Or did I miss something that shouldn't make that such a surprise?
Either way, that part struck me like a glancing blow of a Forklift Truck. It kept me awake at night, man
Without realising it, I'd started to develop an attraction to Emi and then that.

Re: Why is your favorite girl your favorite?
Wasn't her reason for running just because she likes exercise? She ran even before the incident. Though now her reason is considerably less worthy, seeing as on top of that she now runs, literally, to figuratively avoid confronting anything ever. And Emi doesn't hide her emotions. If she's angry or sad or anything, she makes it known. Not to everyone all the time but then no normal person does that. She yells if she's mad, she cries (in appropriate company) when sad. I think you might be thinking of Misha with the whole "happy facade" thing forcing herself onward. Emi actually keeps up a wall not to push forward but to hold her in place. She'd rather stagnate than risk moving forward and having something bad happen.Munchenhausen wrote:Hoooo~ where do I begin?
Emi
My favourite of the five main cripples - She's just always so happy and bubbly, it's hard not to like her!
Her reason for running is inspirational (and I've since taken up getting up at 5:30am to jog) and her backstory is a poignant tale of losing your greatest role model. Nothing like a bit of tragedy to fire up the Feel Generators. I can kinda relate to the concept of her hiding her true emotions for a happier visage, too, although she does it to force herself onwards whereas I do it because I live in constant fear of people thinking I'm an attention seeker.
Her sex scene you know the one actually made me chuckle, as opposed to the disinterest the rest had me in, so that's something.
...and of course, she had my VN Cherry
Did not see her plot twist coming, and it really blindsided me. I'd never feeled that feel about cartoon girls before. It was a harrowing experience.
And if those scenes had you disinterested, you were doing it wrong. Pun intended. Obviously some are just to fill an arbitrary sex quota but many have legitimate merit in regards to the plot and/or characters.
Oh, and the past tense of "feel" is "felt". (Also, referring to emotions as "that feel" is horrible but I'll accept it here because it's basically just a meme in the KS fandom.)
Finally: The 'plot twist' you're referring to was not a plot twist. It's difficult to explain why but if "I didn't see it coming" was enough to qualify something as a twist, then The Sixth Sense's big twist would've been near the beginning ("I see dead people") rather than the end. If anything in KS is a plot twist (not saying it is), it would be the content of Hanako's outburst in her bad end seeing as we spend the entire game just assuming she's cool with everything.
And you are required to get the other bad endings.

I love the interpretation of Pac-Man where he's a just a lowly worker retrieving golf balls left all over the course by the rich masters and the ghosts are all previous workers who got conked on the head and killed by incoming golf balls in the line of duty.

Maybe at the end of Act 3, when Hisao's pushing to know about the accident? This?Munchenhausen wrote:I... I never got her bad ending :CAtario wrote:In her bad-ending scene, you mean?
Scene: ''Instant Replay'' wrote:Hisao: "I just remember that night when you fell asleep with me and had that nightmare, and that you were happy to have me there when you woke up."
Hisao: "I want to be able to be there for you like that whenever you need me to be."
[Emi looks depressed]
"The stern face cracks, slightly. Emi interrupts before I can continue further."
Emi: "Just… stop right there. We can't see each other any more, okay?"
[Emi pouts sadly]
"She's rushing now, looking everywhere but at me. I'm surprised she doesn't bolt, she knows I can't catch her…"
Emi: "We're not… we're not right for one another.

Re: Why is your favorite girl your favorite?
I can't choose between Misha and Emi. And Rin. They're all my favorites. But I'd rather have Misha and Rin as my friends, because they got some perks I don't want my woman to have.
Emi made me run. A drawn cartoon character made me get up every other day at 5:30 - 6:00 and run for an hour. I got addicted to it, and now I'm at my withdrawal. I am thinking about buying a treadmill even though it won't help me much and I don't have a place to store it. And my wife will probably kill me for spending this much money on something I can get for free.
Emi needs no care. She just needs a shoulder to hold on to.
Emi is small, sporty and energetic.
Emi got twintails - the sexiest haircut.
Emi basically saved Hisao a fistful of years of his life by making him run.
Emi's mother is a good kind-hearted woman that is a little bit tired of her daughter's character. I can't leave her alone (nurse doesn't count).
There's something else probably, but aforementioned points are the main ones.

Re: Why is your favorite girl your favorite?
Good question. And though I'll answer it, I'd like start with those two words that have started so much funny conversations: it's complicated.
First, my choice is Rin. I'm a Rin-kind of guy. Second closest is Emi. From the first minute I was drawn towards those two. I am pretty sure that if I was attending Yamaku in person as a pupil I'd be drawn to them as well. They're funny, they're nice, their banter is delicious (rooftop lunches= win). Which is funny, because Emi is a bubbly loli, and I abhor lolis, but once she opened her mouth she was so ADORABLE that I suddenly forgot all my reluctance. And in fact she became my first, "natural" run, and now it seems reasonable. Her eternal optimism and go-getter attitude is a nice contrast to my permanent gloominess, and can serve me as an inspiration to overcome my own apathy; but at the same time we share a similar problem with relationships and distance (and the reasons she offers are the same I'd give sometimes, so there it is), so it feels very natural that the game took me down that path. I still think that story was the one I "needed" the most, which was very perceptive on the writer's side. Way to go, devs.
Then comes Rin. No doubts, she's the girl for me. If she were real, I think I'd be crazy for her, head to toes. But why? The first thing I'd say is "personality". She is mysterious, she is funny. She is also different. I like different people. I like people out of the norm. She definitely is. Also: common interests. Art, of course (I am an aspiring writer, but painting fascinates me), so there's that. But that's the only similarity. The notion that I am somewhat like her would have puzzled me. She's so... arcane. I mean, impossible to understand, right? I am not that weird. Well, everybody says I'm little bit off, but hey, not THAT much, right? Right? And then I had an argument with a friend. Not a big one; the thing is, it was completely perplexing. I don't even know how it started, but before I know, I'm in this bar, while he's yelling at me. "That's the problem! You ask me for advice, and then you just stand there, hearing, with that face, and I don't know if you're listening or ignoring me, or what you think because you just don't talk to me!" And there I am, trying to keep a neutral face, because people always either misunderstand or catch too easily my body language; as usual my demeanor has provoked the exact opposite reaction I wanted, I don't know what to do, and then I remember another thing from the other day, when we were together at home, all the roommates, I said something that tried to be funny, they all laughed, but it was a little nervous, and their immediate reaction was to look at each other and ask me "Seriously, where does that come from?" and the only thing I can think of at that moment is "Fuck. This is not happening. This shit is definitely not happening."
You see, I have a theory. And it is not very original or new, not at all, but bear me for a second. All the people that I recognize as Rin fans tend to emphasize how they understood her, and how they relate to their plight. They also tend to relate to creativity. Artists, writers, and in general "sensitive" people are drawn to her. And it makes sense, it really does, not simply because she is an artist, but because she is so good at being an artist. Whether we're talking about a recognized musician or an office lady that happens to doodle a lot in her free time, creative people share one common trait: seeing life in aesthetic terms. Not taking as it is, but making it fit a series of patterns with internal coherence, even if sometimes that coherence is understood only by one person. Sounds familiar? Yes, of course Rin is such a perfect example stand-in for creative temperament. It really makes sense that she makes such a point of understanding and loving her art, because in a very basic level, she is her art. She can be seen as the quintessential artist, and she fits the role good enough to turn her into a universal archetype.
In short, I think that the thing is that I am (or I think I am) Rin but I want to be Emi. If that makes sense.
Rant's over. Damn, I can't believe I wrote so much. The original message was going to be so much shorter.
