Except maybe Shizune. If Lecter knows signing, all bets are off. Of course, with the pen he probably can....

Even if he didn't, he's Hannibal Lecter. You don't beat him.YZQ wrote:Except maybe Shizune. If Lecter knows signing, all bets are off. Of course, with the pen he probably can....

This thread took an odd turn.

Re: The truth about Emi's first relationship.
I agree with Xanatos' assessment too. Also, doesn't it say that Hanako takes sleeping pils to help her too, or was that in a fanfic? I swear it was in there somewher, but can't remember.Guest Poster wrote:Xanatos put it very well. If you look between Hanako and Emi, it's Hanako who's still putting in the effort to address her issues. She's still visiting a therapist each week. (for all we know, it might actually help with some of her problems...Hanako probably has nightmares just like Emi on occasion) Hanako also admits near the end that when Lilly and Hisao entered her life, she made an honest effort to try and trust them. Hanako knows she has issues and is still working on them as best as she can, despite their magnitude. Emi simply refuses to acknowledge those issues exist in the first place which hardly qualifies as working on them.Xanatos wrote:No, she doesn't. The entire conflict in her route is that she doesn't work on them. She deliberately avoids acknowledging them wherever possible. She ignores the limitations put upon her by her physical issues (and ends up in a wheelchair for the effort) and refuses to ever even try handling her emotional issues (and ends up losing one companion for her trouble, two if you get the bad end and she leaves Hisao). The only work she does is in the good end when she finally moves past it.Warwise wrote:Yes, Emi works on her issues. They are not perfect yet, but she tries.
As Hanako sees it, it's everyone else who has an issue with her, whether it's contempt or a need to fix her. That's what her life has taught her and she's resigned to it because she can't work on that. You can't just "work on" everyone you've known suddenly hating you for no fault of your own. And when years of that contempt forcibly warps your perception of people, you can't just "work on" that either. Her experiences taught her that people are no good and you don't just unlearn that unless you somehow destroy the memory. Her issues required an outsider's aid one way or the other because her own view has been horrendously skewed by her trauma. And she did attempt to work on her problems. She went to therapy. It just didn't help.
Emi isn't resigned to being damaged goods. Emi's issues did not require outside assistance. She didn't attempt to fix things and fail. She's just running from it, pure and simple, because she is irrationally afraid and does not want to risk confronting that.

I'm sure it's not canon that Hanako took sleeping pills.

Ok. Probably a fanfic then. Thank you for answering. Though it's quite possible she does to help with the Traumatic Dreams she surely experiences. But like you said, not canon.YZQ wrote:I'm sure it's not canon that Hanako took sleeping pills.

Sleeping pills must be prescribed with great caution, due to the risk of addiction. I would think that doctors who want to sort out the insomia once and for all will find out the root cause and prescribe accordingly. Sleeping pills only treat symptoms.

I think in what I read (I remember it was a fanfic now) she was having a bad spell of them, so desperate times call for desperate measures.YZQ wrote:Sleeping pills must be prescribed with great caution, due to the risk of addiction. But regardless, this is an Emi Thread, so I'll stop talking about this since I got my answer. Thanks again for answering.

I remembered that too, so I checked our old friend "Sisterhood" and yep. Its in the midpoint chapter where Hanako is visiting her therapist.YZQ wrote:I'm sure it's not canon that Hanako took sleeping pills.
Miss Yumi: “That’s good to hear. May I suggest we try a week without sleeping pills again and see if things remain that way? The worst weeks should be behind us for now.”

On the other hand, Emi and sleeping pills. For those days where she can't run.

Yeah, I figured Hanako had nightmare spells at certain times of the year, just like Emi. (around the anniversary of her accident) I didn't think it was illogical for her therapist to prescribe sleeping pills just to get her through a tough week or two and then stop after the worst period is over.Miss Yumi: “That’s good to hear. Sisterhood: True Edition. Hanako epilogue I wrote. Now expanded with additional chapters.

Emi/Hanako addicted to prescription drugs. Oh boy...

Re: The truth about Emi's first relationship.
There are actually quite a few sleeping pills that are "non-habit forming" I am on one, though I hear the addictive stuff is much better :b
Completion order: Emi->Lily->Shizune->Hanako->Rin
Feels order: Emi->lily/Hanako->Rin->Shizune

Re: The truth about Emi's first relationship.
Yeah, same here. I've been taking some for about three years, and they haven't resulted in anything except three years of good sleep, rather than three years of tossing and turning and sleeping only when exhaustion forced me to do so (which is basically what the three years preceding them were like). I think pills get an overly bad rap.BananaPudding wrote:There are actually quite a few sleeping pills that are "non-habit forming" I am on one, though I hear the addictive stuff is much better :b
