I should clarify that it's not perfectly translatable as "子" ("ko") is a diminutive suffix, which we don't have in English, so the closest one can get is "little".

or 'flower girl'. though i thought Hanako's kanji would be 花子 the whole time.
(花 and 華 essentially mean the same, and sound the same. but 花 is more often used to describe the word 'flower')
btw. ~子 is a term often used in Japanese names, means ~boy(girl) or ~child.

it could also mean 'little' or 'young', like 子猫 (koneko) means 'little kitten'

so, 華子、little flower girl. that suits her perfectly.

Oh, that's where people are getting these spellings.

So 笑美 Emi = beautiful smile, 静音 Shizune = Quiet Sound, 琳 RIn = Jewel (they could have used 淋 meaning "lonely"), 久夫 Hisao = Man with a long life (HA HA), 昭夫 Akio = bright man (Mutou just transliterates as "warrior creeper-plant"). Pretty clever, 4LS. The rest are pretty run-of-the-mill, though.
