Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Mendācium)

Edit: Oh god, there's twenty chapters of this shit? Over 200,000 words ? And it says to skip to chapter nine if you've already read Hanako Act 1? Talk about verbal diarrhea. And that fic is significantly more popular than Tomorrow's Doom on the website, which should just go to show you how shitty t...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Mendācium)

I'm not going to lie; when I was reading Mendacium, I found myself wanting Brogurt to double down and actually have Hanako commit suicide. I mean, the story was so bleak and the characters so unlikable that I really wanted to see the story go full-on Shakespearean Tragedy. When the story wound up ha...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

Maybe it's just because failed romances that become strong friendships are something I've always found heartwarming (my roommate is still really close with his ex-wife and I've always found it so sweet,) but I like the idea of Hisao eventually taking Misha's place as Shizune's best friend in a post-...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

You know, I'm thinking of revising my statement about BEFFs.

There is exactly one bad ending with the potential to be successfully BEFFed, and that bad ending is The Deep End.

Re: Another Yamaku

Your formatting leaves a lot to be desired. You need to read a style guide (like Strunk & White's The Elements of Style. ) You've been way, way too parsimonious with your line breaks and your paragraphs are a mess. I can't read your story (like, literally , I cannot read it ) until that is recti...

Re: Learning To Fly - A Saki pseudo-route (Updated 6/18)

I'm trying to commission one of my artsy friends to do some character/CGesque drawings in the next month or so :) Wuh-oh . You might want to make sure that's okay with the devs before paying somebody to do KS art. Or at least, pay them in something other than cash. Maybe offer to help them move or ...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

And yet his actions up to this point are almost exactly the same. You even get to read his interior monologue. So I can't really see how he could have a completely different view of Hanako in one case than in the other. That's not really an option with first person narrative... Up until Misstep-Cut...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

Hmm, I could have sworn one of the devs confirmed Rin dies, but I can't remember where.

Ah well. It doesn't really matter either way. For what it's worth, I'm glad the finished product wasn't as death-heavy as it apparently was at one point in development.

Hmm. That one's not terrible, actually. Probably because it's not a BEFF (which I generally define as taking place before graduation.)

Re: Developments (Post-Lilly Neutral End) - Chapter 44 up 6/

"M-Miura?" Hanako says, her eyes widening. "She doesn't...seem like the type who'd want to train anybody." "Heh...well, maybe not. Nobody on that team is as dedicated to running as I am. Maybe that girl from 3-1 who's always in the pool could... " Whoa, has that been a...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

Emi... In "Guess Who's Coming" Hisao drops the ball worse than he ever did in Misstep, so depending on which way you went to get to the good end you've already salvaged a pseudo bad end. Her bad end is pretty final, though. It's even said in the text: "We don't talk again after that....

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

For some reason I skipped right over Lilly in my head, because I have to agree, the distance obliterates any chances of that being salvaged. And yeah, I have to admit, the bad ending probably spells death for Rin (looking back, the particular fics I had in mind follow the neutral end). I think the ...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

Hisao was a genuinely concerned, albeit misguided individual who on one occasion failed to respect Hanako's boundaries. Not some toxic plague rat that crawled into her room and vomited on the floor. They both came away from that situation with regrets, Hanako for saying things about her friends tha...

Re: Limits of Fanfiction - What is appropriate?

I'll note that the BEFF that I'm trying to find, it was Hanako that was driving the fixing, and Hisao was not physically capable of chasing her at first. (Namely, Misstep triggering a heart attack, and her not wanting him to die , so with the two adrenaline hits (from Hisao pushing her over the edg...
