Re: Learning To Fly - A Saki pseudo-route (Completed)

I don't post here often anymore, but I just had to offer my heartfelt congratulations, EBJ! It's wild to think that both KS's release and the start of this fanfic were over ten years ago, but holy hell, you actually completed it. I know you went through a lot over that decade, especially recently ...

Re: Learning To Fly - A Saki pseudo-route (Double Update 3/14)

I don't frequent these forums nearly as often as I used to, but there are always a few stories that bring me back. I have to admit, I was a little worried about this one for a while, but a small dose of pessimism has its way of making things like this sweeter. That is to say, this update was well ...

Re: Running Away To You (A Post Lilly-Neutral Story) (Updated 15/8/21)

Well, your portrayal of Akira and Lilly's father certainly isn't winning any Father of the Year awards. I don't think I've read a more despicable version of him in any story on here. I have my doubts that this version of him will see the error of his ways by the end of the story. I can say the same ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Presenting: Nurse & Meiko)

The main sticking point for me with Twice was that it suggested that Nurse and Meiko had some prior history. To be honest, it was a plot point I did not particularly care for, though I can't quite put a finger on the exact reason for that. And then there is the ever-present plot point that they ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Presenting: Emi Ibarazaki)

A Wedding With Lilly I have to concur with the sentiment that this could pass for a Developments epilogue. I got the impression that it was a bait-and-switch piece (that title though), but it was still really nice. For as small as it is, it tells an awful lot, I think. Emi's Winter Break The whole ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Presenting: Emi Ibarazaki)

The script format of Empty Hallways threw me off, but then it is more of a prototype than a fanfic. I did like it, though it would not fit into the VN as we know it. Emi was simply too guarded and resistant to being helped in the final product. Hisao's actions here would have more than likely ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Showing—Developments!)

Oh phew, Developments is still the point of order. My fingers started typing for some reason, so here are some thoughts on a few of the blank-slate/OC/deuterocanon characters. Not necessarily a point of discussion, but this is as good a place to spill my rambles as any! Yoshi was an oddball case for ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Showing—Developments!)

Just an odd thing that sticks out in the final chapter... The circumstances of Hisao's birth/conception still vex me. In particular, the way he tells the story to Emi. He states that his grandfather was deliberately vague about the details. What convinced his parents to try again after all of that ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Showing—Developments!)

Ah, Developments . I recall saying that it wound up being more than twice as long as I anticipated it would, and boy, I wasn't kidding. It started out with a deceptively simple premise, but as its title implied, quickly developed into something far... longer? More complicated? Convoluted? Ah, better ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumes—[Jigoro/Hideaki])

Aha, sorry brythain. I just thought I should get that out of the way since I am plainly biased against them. I'll tackle Jigoro first, then. Of Jigoro and Hisao: My feelings on this one have softened some over the years. Here, Jigoro is somehow both more offensive and more complex than he is ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumes—[Jigoro/Hideaki])

I'd go so far as to say that Jigoro and Hideaki are two of the main reasons I disliked the Shizune route. I absolutely agree with everything Oddball said about Hideaki. He's just sort of... there. His relationship with Shizune is never really explored or anything. The closest thing is probably his ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumes — Misha!)

Aha, that's what I get for not reading the VN in almost a year. I should get around to that. But in either case, I do stand by it being a genuine change, even if it's a forced one on her part. It's not a case of dual identity, so there isn't this secret club of people that are allowed to call her by ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Resumes — Misha!)

I've always thought that the (rather popular) concept of "Misha" being a mask has always been a construct of the fan community. So few people seem to just take it at face value as being a nickname. Indeed, it is most often treated as some kind of alter ego. Poor, brown-haired, drilless, heartbroken ...

Re: Developments (Post-Lilly NE) - Epilogue up 8/11 - COMPLE

First, a very belated congratulations! Second: No, thank you , dewelar. :D I didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into when I first started reading this story. It happened at an awkward time when after reading the VN again and giving its characters more thought, Lilly just sort of fell from ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Meeting Update: Aug/Sep—Hanako)

Robnonymous' other Hanako fic, Bad Dreams. Short with possibly diabeetus-level sweetness. I suppose one can raise questions about Hanako's portrayal in the story, though I think that is one of many things that just falls under personal interpretation.
