Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Greater than the Sum)

I concur. I'm sorry to say that I might just have to go off memory for this one...

But on second thought, I read this over two years ago. Might just have to sit this one out.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Closure)

I agree with pretty much everything dewelar said. I know, lazy, right? But it's true. There's just one extra thing I have to add to my list of woes. Particularly regarding the source of Hisao's despair. Shizune's death has to be the most melodramatic thing I have ever read on this entire site. She s...

Re: Developments (Post-Lilly Neutral End) - Chapter 41 up 5/

Up till now I admit that I thought you were going with the "Hisao and Lilly grow from this experience and get back together" scenario, but this chapter pretty much snuffs out that possibility. Perhaps that is for the best, though. I suppose what remains to be seen is whether Hisao's concer...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: The Fireman)

To be honest, it started to lose me after the actual fire rescue. The whole Santa Claus thing was a little too saccharine for my tastes. Almost gave me diabeetus. I could easily see the guy checking on her once in a while, but the added tinge of Christmas Miracle just turned it up to eleven. It's no...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Terror in the Night!)

The story kind of had me as far as characterization goes up until Hisao started channeling Van Helsing. Granted, I have never really tried to read a Hisao and Kenji story before. The overall premise never really drew me in. Of course, that means I've missed out on a lot of character development, so ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Terror in the Night!)

We could always start an NC-17 book club.
With blackjack! And hookers!

On a more serious note, I need to get started on this story.

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Apologies to Harlan Ellis

My main problem with Doomish's works is that he sometimes drags them out ambitiously. I don't know if I can really consider it shock value, since he generally puts a lot of effort into making it relevant to the narrative. That being said, suspension of disbelief is another issue. Anyway, if everybod...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: Apologies to Harlan Ellis

Doomish's stuff isn't for everyone, that's for certain. I doubt that I will have time to give it a thorough rereading, but I would be glad to discuss my recollection. It definitely left an impression.

Re: Lustre: A Misaki Kawana Route [Update 11/05/2014]

Not the original reason I asked this question , but it seems a little relevant. Anyway, I still feel like the segue into Hisao's recruitment is a tad too forced, but the character interaction was actually pretty funny. And it's nice to see another fanfic that makes use of Akio. I've always been bias...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: After the Dream: Rin's St

Technology is certainly advancing quickly, that much I cannot argue with. I'm a bit guilty of watching those shows where Michio Kaku (that guy is awesome) rants on about all the things that will be possible in the future. Those in themselves often fail to suspend my disbelief, so I think that is an ...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: After the Dream: Rin's St

"They" is the only universally accepted gender neutral pronoun for a human in English. ("It" is considered dehumanizing, "ze" and others get a "wtf does that even mean" reaction.) It's a matter of perspective really. Some find "it" derogatory since ...

Re: Developments (Post-Lilly Neutral End) - Chapter 40 up 5/

Well, Lilly came off as being significantly less miserable as I thought she was going to be. That much is good.

And sometimes I forget that Lilly's route is the one that she and Shizune start to reconcile in. Nice to see that come into play here.

Re: Say Hisao's parents couldn't afford Yamaku...

It would be even worse with Iwanako, who would probably avoid Hisao altogether. I have to wonder if she'd come around eventually, though. She does manage to send Hisao her letter in every route, so maybe with him directly there she'd make herself face what happened, possibly even sooner. True. In a...

Re: Say Hisao's parents couldn't afford Yamaku...

Well, attendance to Yamaku was supposedly just a recommendation anyway. A rather heavy-handed one, but a recommendation nonetheless. Chances are, he would end up returning to his own school. I don't see that going down well. From his point of view, his three best friends, as well as his "girlfr...

Re: Yamaku Book Club (Now Reading: On the Couch)

I'd have rather had it all treated as a whole, to be perfectly honest. There are a lot of lesser known fanfics that could use attention.
