It's interesting to me how you think censorship while I thought edit or change. I do agree that censorship will in many cases not improve quality or better communicate a message, but I do think it could be used to bring the work to a larger audience. As for your other question, the answer would have to be yes. One of the devs likened turning off the sex scenes to skipping any of the other scenes from the game. You would miss out on just as much narrative and would be a bit or perhaps very lost when you jump back into the story.

Just wanted to add another note. A lot of people seem to be confusing the idea of eroticism with pornography. You know, I want to see a western developer try to take on a Visual Novel. Western game developers are generally much more diverse than Japanese ones, which are becoming stagnant and losing prominence in the industry. Though it might not be better, it would still be interesting to see what path ...
