Re: Voice acting the entirety of Katawa Shoujo?
I think the bigger problem is that KS has a higher word count than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Not many internet hobby projects can survive for that long.

Re: Petition for non-blurry GPU-based scaling
Modern GPUs are high programmable. You can easily do perfect scaling if you want to. If a game is blurry, it's due to either bad settings or not being programmed to scale properly. Either way, the issue isn't a lack of functionality. Scaling in the hardware monitor is another issue, but many ...

Re: Voice acting the entirety of Katawa Shoujo?
It makes sense in a way that there isn't as much inflection conveyed through sign language when compared to vocals (then again, I know nothing about sign language). However I think it'd take a lot of the emotion away from her dialogue, most of which can be garnered through context. Actually, it ...

Re: Adaptive technology
I'm not saying that the technology won't eventually be there. I just think it will be bad for at least the next couple years. I expect sign languages to be harder to machine translate than written languages due to the lack of a corpus and the complexity of the input (hands, positioning, NMS, etc ...

Re: Adaptive technology
"Hello, my name is Thomas and this is Navid. We are inventors in the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize competition." is a completely valid and grammatically correct English sentence. (Actually it's two grammatically correct sentences.) What you call the "Do-Not-Want-Effect" is what happens when you let a ...

Re: Adaptive technology
Mr. Hawking is a mute person - as in "not able to speak" - who is using an electronic device to translate muscle movements into spoken language. Basically it's the same as this glove - only Mr Hawking can use much fewer muscles than the average mute person. It enables him to hold lectures on ...

Re: Adaptive technology
I have never assumed that Steven Hawking is a complete idiot because he uses a machine to talk. Neither have I assumed that for others (like the little girl in the video I linked above), and people who assume that are probably not worth associating with in the first place. Hawking speaks English ...

Re: Adaptive technology
Well, if that's not translation, then I want to know their definition of "translation" ^^° Normally translation is considered to mean accurately conveying the meaning of what is being translated, not just doing word-for-word translation. If a deafmute person wanted to communicate with someone who ...

Re: Adaptive technology
From what I see in the video they do translate sign language and they do a quite good job of it - even factoring in that they probably made sure that the script they used for the video was something the gloves could recognize and maybe practiced it a few times before recording. So what if they don ...

Re: Adaptive technology
From what I've read, they don't actually translate sign language, and it's kind of offensive that to suggest they do. It's a shame that so much of the news coverage focuses on that angle, rather on applications the gloves might actually be useful for. Note that real sign languages usually make heavy ...

Re: Almost done playing the game, current thoughts
Honestly, if you didn't like Rin based on the glimpses you see of her in the other routes, I can't see you enjoying her path all that much. It's just more of the same, dialed up to 11. Truly Rin at her Riniest. It's funny you should say that, because I thought that Rin's path really wasn't like her ...

Re: Please release Katawa Shoujo source code as free softwar
Oh, I know all about that. But I don't think it's a good idea to discuss here. I assumed you wanted official source code with the original whitespace and comments for some reason.
But yeah, Renpy isn't exactly hard to reverse engineer if that's your concern.
