Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"
Hang on... so all this time you guys have been saying it's all about the context and intention behind the words, but when the word is used in the context of describing a person who is deaf (in the case, Shizune), it's only offensive if combined with 'deaf'? You're getting better at putting words in...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
I gotta admit Azumeow brings up great points, and they come from personal experience to boot. I just want to emphasize the "calmly" part of his advice; if it starts to get intense you've gotta be the one to calm down first. Take some deep breaths, think before you speak, and again be patie...

I thought it was just a different perspective on the scene where she's trying to masturbate, with some dramatic lighting for effect

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
The most loving thing you can do for "Emi" to to help her help herself. Best line. Agreed with everything GlassAlmanac said, but that's definitely the best part. It's definitely impossible to help her on your own, from the sounds of it she is likely to need therapy due to several traumati...

Re: Terminology debate - "mute" versus "voice-off"
You keep going on about how you are ‘factually’ correct. Because I am, and I have actually proven that, where you haven't. I just provided the links to the definition to show that I wasn’t making it up, that all these Deaf organizations have gone on record as saying they consider the term offensive...

Re: How good is Hanako at chess?
True, but Bobby Fischer is beyond grandmaster level. He's fucking insanely good at chess.
I wouldn't imagine she could play against grandmasters live due to her anxiety. It'd either be correspondence or over the internetz.

That's the basis of what I'm saying. By not fully capturing it, you've cheapened it by leaving off some bits. It's a valiant struggle, but it's also an impossible goal.YZQ wrote:Words may not fully capture the experience, but I dare say it'll be able to capture most of it.

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
Ah, I see. Sounds good then, just wanted to make sure you didn't climb out of a hole only to fall right back in because of the rope you used to get out. Honestly I wouldn't bother trying to put words to the greatness of Katawa Shoujo. It cheapens the power of the experience. Cherish the memories, re...

Re: Do I want to see the bad/neutral endings?
Whether or not you want to see them, you should. And not via some guy's recording. I think this is how it's been said best. There's something a bit more visceral about doing it yourself, rather than watching someone else do it. Especially because they usually have commentary. It's like watching a m...

Re: Hanako's Broken Heart Club
So I've made it my life goal to figure out why this VN is what is, through research, study and intense analysis. Don't you think that's falling back into old habits a bit? Emotions cannot be defined, and as you experienced they don't take well to being ruled. They're powerful, elusive, and necessar...

Re: Do I want to see the bad/neutral endings?
Maybe I missed something else. There's no doubt you missed something else. Even if you play Katawa Shoujo to 100% completion from scratch hundreds of times over, there's bound to be some sentiment or another that escapes you. That's the joy, though. To come back to something old and find something ...
