Welp, I only heard about KS a week or so ago. I have no idea what these forums must've been like in their prime, but if new people are still hearing about it, there's still hope. I was installing a KS skin as the default offline skin the other day, because I use a custom skin for online play, when I suddenly felt horrible. I realised that in order for the game to register I needed to rename "Hanako.png" to "char.png".
